The Dark Cloud
This illustration portrays an oriental myth about HouYi from ancient China from a different angle, leading the story toward a dramatic ending.
According to the original story description, there were originally 10 suns in the shape of 3 claws raven, in some forms of this myth they are the sons or grandsons of the Jade Emperor. Initially, the 10 suns would cross the sky one by one, but one day the 10 suns decided to come out all at once so that they could play with each other, and scorched the earth just for fun. The land is dry out and turns into hell. As the tribal leader, HouYi decides to take his responsibilities to protect the villages and his people from the 10 suns.
This illustration creatively tells a different ending. After HouYi shot down 1 of the 10 suns, He infuriated the rest of 9 suns. The 9 suns gathered together into a gigantic fireball with fury trying to smash HouYi into dust.
At the end of the story, HouYi’s body vanished in fire but his brave human spirit and power gave the 9 suns a good lesson. Thus the 9 suns went back to their position in awe by crossing the sky one by one every day on a schedule just like the old times and never show themselves together on the same day again.
This version of HouYi Hunting the Suns I create is closer to human status. In the face of nature, Human beings are weak in the physical way, but extremely strong in the mental way. We do, we fail, we think, we refine, we do it again till things work out. Day after day, generation after generation. Thus we have the strongest weapon against the god.
